Can I use a mobile phone?

Yes.

Mobile phones are quite safe to use for patients with pacemakers. It is advised, however, to use the ear on the opposite side of the body to the side that the pacemaker has been inserted. It is also advisable not to keep the phone on and not in a breast pocket immediately over the pacemaker insertion site.

If electrical devices do ever interfere with a pacemaker they will not cause them to stop functioning by 'turning them off'. At worst they will change the programming that has been fine tuned to you after the pacemaker was inserted meaning that pacing rates, battery drain etc may not be ideal but they will not suddenly turn the pacemaker off causing the heart to stop!!
